Vegan restaurants, Brooklyn style: where the plant-based eat in New York
"Ex-Del Posto pastry chef Brooks Headley has been focusing his energy on the veggie burgers at Superiority Burger in the East Village, but the ice cream and gelato here are worth the trip alone. Flavors rotate almost daily, but have included lime labne, corn tortilla, extra-virgin olive oil, and pineapple-rhubarb. Superiority Burger is currently only available for pre-orders, which can be reserved starting on Monday at noon and are available for dinner from Wednesday to Sunday."
"A post shared by @ superiorityburger on Jun 17, 2019 at 1:53pm PDT. This compact white-tiled restaurant is an easy one to spot. Their slogan is "Everything is vegetarian. A lot is accidentally vegan. Just Ask." Their menu is short and sweet, with options ranging from the Sloppy Dave with frizzles onions to Megamouth."
"Created by Brooks Headley, daily specials are improvised from Greenmarket finds. Unlike many vegan/ vegetarian establishments, they keep their prices low. They therefore offer a cruelty-free, but just as delicious, alternative to NYC fast-food burger joints."
"Boasting, perhaps, what is the area's best vegetarian menu, Hangawi offers patrons a chance to dine in a refined, traditionally decorated setting and enjoy some of the best Korean food you can hope to find. It's not uncommon to find a wide range of customers here, from business-types to neighborhood artists, most of whom make the wise decision to opt for the Emperor's lunch or dinner combinations. These provide excellent ways to sample all the best that Hangawi offers."
"If you are looking for quality Korean vegan dishes while enjoying complete peace of mind, you have made the right choice for your dining. It is not simply any Korean gourmet vegetarian restaurant but is akin to a spiritual place. You will be asked to open your shoes prior to entering the dining space, a custom similar to entering any traditional Korean home."

"Dirt Candy is one of those vegetarian restaurants where vegetarians, vegans, and meat-eaters can sit side-by-side enjoying every dish on the menu pondering its greatness. Of all the vegetarian restaurants I've tried, this one is somewhere on top. All the dishes at this establishment are named after the vegetable that's featured in that particular dish and they are gorgeously presented."
"This restaurant was vegetarian before it was cool – and even staunch meat-eaters will be impressed by their “broccoli dogs”. Featured on our list of 100 most unique restaurant concepts in the world, Dirt Candy deserves a double mention for its role as “leader of the vegetable-forward movement”."
"If there’s an underlying philosophy to what we do, it’s that we want people to crave vegetables the way they crave fried chicken and pizza. So every day our chef rolls up here sleeves and tries to do something with vegetables no one’s ever done before. We’re on a journey into the unknown."
"Veggie Grill opened its 37th location in New York in 2019 in Flatiron with an entirely plant based menu. Veggie Grill is the largest 100 percent plant-based fast casual brand in the United States. All menu items are free of meat, dairy, eggs and other animal products (that means they are free of antibiotics and hormones!)."
"California’s popular chain restaurant Veggie Grill opened its first NYC location in the Flatiron area in 2019 to the joy of vegans all across the city. Everything from burgers to cauliflower wings to mac and cheese to salads is on the menu. 12 West 23rd Street, Manhattan"
"This casual spot snuggled between shops in Chinatown is a fully kosher vegan dim sum restaurant that offers a traditional take on the cuisine minus the meat. Mock meat is aplenty at Buddha Bodai including faux ribs, chicken, tripe, and even shark fin. Their menu is expansive and features dim sum dishes, full-sized entrees, sushi, and so much more."
"Founded in 2004, Buddha Bodai has maintained its commitment to providing high-quality vegan Chinese. Located on Mott St in Chinatown, Buddah Bodai has a wide selection of traditional favorites including General Tso Vegan Steak and Chinese Broccoli, and Chicken Lo Mein. What really sets this place apart, is their large selection of dim sum options."
"Chinese , Vegetarian , Dim Sum"
"Ai Fiori in Midtown marries the atmosphere of the Milan power-lunch venue and the elegant fish-driven menu of a fine-dining restaurant on the Amalfi Coast. It's an odd mix, but it works, and just as Milan and Amalfi's posh restaurants aren't bound by Italy's borders when it comes to luxury, Ai Fiori also ventures away from Italian ingredients when it means elevating a dish like fluke crudo with the addition of sturgeon caviar. Pasta and risotto dishes, meanwhile, might be garnished with a flurry of black or white truffles, season permitting."
"Meaning “among the flowers” in Italian, Ai Fiori serves some of the best dishes in town. Celebrating Italian Riviera and French cuisine, it prides itself on its modern twists on classic dishes, such as vellutata (lobster soup, périgord black truffles and croutons) and blue crab spaghetti. Upon entering the restaurant, you’ll notice a beautiful white marble bar where the skilled bar staff serves up carefully crafted cocktails to seduce your palate."
"Located in the elegant Langham hotel, Ai Fiori dishes up French and Italian cuisine, highlighting their signature house-made pastas. Using seasonal ingredients, the chefs at Ai Fio..."
"Located in the heart of Williamsburg is Fabiane’s, a charming café that fuses French cuisine with Brazilian roots to create a delightful assortment of pastries, salads, breakfast dishes and sandwiches since 2001. If you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, stop by and try our vanilla crème...See More"
"For those into partying, you’ll still want to walk the High Line, experience Greenwich Village as well as explore Chelsea, which has some of New York’s best nightlife. Walk the Highline for an amazing view of Manhattan’s skyline from above in a modern green space that used to be train tracks. The Highline is a public park that spans quite a few blocks, so give yourself at least an hour if you come here to enjoy the views!"
"This location is ideal for any shopaholic looking to take cute photos of their best purchases. The market encompasses an entire city block and provides some of the best shops and food marts, such as Cappone’s Salumeria and Ninth Street Espresso."
"If you want to get a feel for how a real-life weekend experience is in NYC, walking through Chelsea Market will give just that. Chelsea Market is a historic, landmarked building in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan,"
"The Smorgasburg Sunday location is in the center of Prospect Park. It is filled with just as many delicious food vendors as their other two locations, as well as plenty of picnic tables (for those quick enough to grab one). Location: Breeze Hill, Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY 11225"
"The name Momofuku may be connected with several restaurants, but there is nothing more iconic than the cereal milk soft serve from Momofuku Milk Bar."
