Best Restaurants in Bend, Oregon (& what to order
"And while we do have Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Market of Choice as well as Locavore and finally the traditional Safeway, Albertsons and Fred Meyers, we also have something exclusively in Bend that you won’t find anywhere else (that’s redundant on purpose): Newport Market. If you’ve ever been to New York City’s Upper West Side and stepped into Zabar’s, you will feel right at home at Newport Market. No, it isn’t a kosher deli, but it is small, the shelves are close together, and the selection is phenomenonal for the minimal space they inhabit. Yes, the prices are a little high, but for quality seafood (considering we are not close to the ocean), wonderful wines (I trust every selection and have yet to be disappointed), a sushi bar, deli options, even cooking utensils and supplies (they sell Le Creuset) as well as locally made food such as Bontà gelato."
"there’s a stigma that comes with grocery store sushi, and it’s not great. But trust me when I say there are two spots worth a second look, especially when you’re seeking an on-the-go sushi meal to take with you on a picnic or a day drive from Bend. Customers survey the selection at Market of Choice on $4.99 Sushi Wednesdays."
"There are the uber health conscious organic shoppers, discount savings shoppers, loyalists to a particular chain or local market, and bulk shoppers. But what if you are a little bit of each of these kinds of shoppers?. If so, it sounds like it’s time to visit Cascade Village Shopping Center."
"Another relative newcomer to Bend’s dining scene, Foxtail Bakeshop provides the perfect excuse to explore the up-and-coming Box Factory and its eclectic collection of shops, restaurants, and awesome history. Foxtail Bakeshop boasts some pretty fabulous art on the walls (not to mention amazing brunch!). You order at the counter before choosing your table, which means you’ll spend your time in line drooling over the stunningly gorgeous pastries in the display case."
"My first experience tasting the talents of chef and owner Nickol Hayden-Cady’s pastries was when I attended a class offered through the Bite of Bend. Needless to say, I came home with four knock-your-socks-off recipes and a sugar high in all the right ways. Hayden-Cady has been in the pastry business for 15 years beginning with her training at the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New York."
"Sure, it may be known as a dessert more than a breakfast food, but we say, live on the wild side. At Foxtail Bakeshop, owner and pastry chef Nickol Hayden-Cady makes the curd for her lemon tart with fresh lemon juice and zest, egg yolks, vanilla beans and butter. A smooth texture lets the crisp, natural flavors speak."
"Known for its buttery, scratch-made scones and an entire case of gluten-free options, Nancy P’s Café & Bakery has been a neighborhood mainstay on the west side for seventeen years. High ceilings and walls of windows provide the ideal lighting for sitting down with the Sunday paper. Among Nancy P’s many savory and sweet goodies sits the unassuming almond croissant, and it’s worth branching out of your scone-ordering habit to savor its flavor."
"As someone who has been visiting Bend since I was a young girl, my first visit without my parents to visit my aunt and uncle was almost twenty years ago, and I can vividly remember Nancy P’s Cafe and Bakery. The cozy house with an abundance of green foliage accessorizing the home. Needless to say, one of the first ventures I set out on when I moved here was to find this bakery."
"At a glance: Cute cafe with excellent baked goods and sandwiches. This cute little cafe serves up some excellent baked items as well as sandwiches, salads and breakfast offerings in a homey atmosphere. While it’s a nice place to eat and relax, this is one of our favorite places to grab a sandwich and treats for a day of hiking and adventuring."
"My go-to at most donut shops is donut holes, since they're easy to eat, usually yummy, and difficult to ruin, unless the dough and the glaze are def..."
"Fortunately, the Village Baker owners long ago realized that we are all kids at heart who want the twinkle of Christmas morning available on a daily basis. The “personal”-sized version is best shared with a sweetie though, as its diameter is about the size of a hand. The beloved Eddy came to be when co-owners, bakers and spouses Lauren and Bill Kurzman—who opened the bakery in 1996—wanted to create a pastry take on a flourless chocolate cake."
"Each bakery on my list has really found their niche in the bakery community here in Bend. And while all the bakeries (except Foxtail) bake bread, The Village Baker’s bread is at the top of my list. Each day they have a particular specialty bread and every day they have available the popular customer favorites."
"The Sparrow Bakery operates two locations in Bend: One on SE Scott, and this shiny new location in Summit West. Here, visitors will find breakfast sandwiches stacked on flaky croissants, croque monsieur on house-baked brioche, and lox-topped bagels, but the real move at Sparrow is to get a bunch of pastries — in particular, the bakery’s ocean roll, a flaky laminated pastry layered with cardamom vanilla sugar. The bakery is open for takeout orders, and now offers pre-ordered delivery."
"The doughnuts are pretty average, but they are really overpriced for what they are. At almost $2 for a plain glazed doughnut, they really should be somet..."

"Head to Boneyard Beer, where dogs can enjoy their own taste of the first organic, non-alcoholic brew made specifically for them: Dawg Grogg. When it comes to good beer for humans, Boneyard is known for its balanced hoppy beers and there are almost always outstanding seasonal options, including the winter favorite, Suge Knite Imperial Stout. RPM IPA is its best known, and available on tap throughout the city."
"Not too far down the road from Spider City, you’ll find a boneyard. Boneyard Beer, that is. This is the place to be when it comes time to enjoy a beer in Bend, pint glass in hand, casually sipping away on the patio that never seems to end. Collecting old brewing equipment from 13 different breweries across the country, Boneyard Beer was born with one simple goal in mind – to make great beer."
"Washington Dining and Cocktails is a stylish restaurant and bar that serves New American cuisine and handcrafted cocktails in an elegant, lounge-style setting. Located on Mt. Washington Drive, the restaurant offers a menu of classic, nostalgic dishes with a creative touch including fresh seafood and prime steaks, refreshing salads with locally sourced produce and a variety of toppings, and Italian-influenced appetizers and desserts. Brunch is served on Sunday and features signature dishes like the omelet with goat’s cheese, avocado and cherry tomatoes, and a buffalo chicken salad."
"Washington Dining & Cocktails offers a family-friendly menu with classic favorites in addition to fresh daily specials. They’ve teamed up with Drake, one of our favorite sources for elevated comfort food, to offer curbside takeout and minimal patio dining from 12–8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.–8 p.m."
"Set in a cozy Craftsman bungalow on the Westside of Bend, Ariana is an intimate restaurant that offers an unforgettable dining experience. Owned and managed by Chef Andres and Ariana Fernandez, the welcoming restaurant serves a seasonal menu of inventive New American cuisine prepared with locally sourced ingredients and regional produce accompanied by globally inspired wines and signature house cocktails. Guests can select dishes from an a la carte menu or taste a five-course Chef’s tour of menu favorites along with an extensive collection of wines from Oregon and Washington."
"Situated in a quaint little cottage on busy Galveston Avenue, Ariana has been the cornerstone of fine dining in Bend for quite some time. Husband-wife duo Andrès and Ariana Fernandez have continually created simple, refined food, often incorporating seasonal produce from Central Oregon. Seating is limited, so for those hoping to nab seared scallops with Dungeness crab risotto, reservations are highly recommended; however, the restaurant is still offering pre-ordered curbside takeaway."
