"The hills are alive with the sound of clinking beer glasses at this Austrian restaurant on the grounds of Stowe's Trapp Family Lodge, owned by the family whose story inspired "The Sound of Music." After a day of cross-country skiing or mountain biking on the resort's trails, which are open to the public for a fee, you'll love stopping in to sample German-style lagers crafted in the 30,000-square-foot on-site brewery. A wood-fired grill keeps the dining space toasty; long tables encourage mingling. Order a beer flight, and see what pairs best with bratwurst and spätzle and schnitzel."
"The real von Trapp family, from "The Sound of Music”, was a musical troupe that toured the world after their escape from Salzburg, Austria, in 1938. As the family business became lucrative, the von Trapp's purchased a small farmhouse in Stowe and settled down to live amid the mountains yet again. This turned into the Trapp Family Lodge. The trails and outdoor center are open to enjoy and tours are available to take part in. Simply driving though the property and taking in the view is worth the stop to many visitors. Located 58 minutes from our resort."
"The Trapp Family Lodge was once the home of the famous musical von Trappe family, about whom the musical ‘The Sound of Music’ was based. It has an Austrian style that reflects the heritage of the family that once lived in the main lodge. It is now a large resort that is set in 2,500 acres."

"Last but not least is another easy trail for hiking in Stowe: Wiessner Woods!. As the name suggests, this hike is mainly a forest trail that will bring you through beautiful trees and nature. You might even pass by some great wildflowers or even wildlife."
"Almost entirely forested, Wiessner Woods is a public access park that has several trails running through it for hiking, nature viewing, bird watching, and wildlife viewing. Black bears do live in the area though so the public is advised to use caution."
"Edson Hill Road (3.5 miles off Rte. 108)Stowe, VT 05672802-253-7221. Encompassing 79 acres, this forested area is a prime spot for outdoor recreation in Stowe."
"This short (1/2 mile) and easy hike follows a trail alongside the Sterling Falls Gorge in the Sterling Falls Gorge Natural Area. The falls themselves consist of three falls, six cascade sets and eight pools. In summer, a few of the cascades and pools may be hidden by the leafy green foliage of the forest."
"One of the most fascinating parts about visiting Stowe is learning about its rich history and tales from the 1800s. The Gold Brook Covered Bridge is an old bridge on the outskirts of the city that I highly recommend visiting. The urban legend claims that this bridge is haunted by a ghost named Emily who took her life at the bridge after her lover deserted her on their wedding day."
"No Vermont trip is complete without visiting at least one covered bridge. Did you know Vermont has more covered bridges (107!) than any other state?. Golden Brook Covered Bridge, also known as Emily’s Bridge, is a 50-foot-long wooden bridge over Gold Brook."
"The story is that Emily committed suicide here a long time ago and that her spirit still haunts the bridge."

"Since 1974, Cold Hollow Cider Mill has been producing some of New England’s finest cider the “old-fashioned way”; with a traditional rack and cloth press from the 1920’s. "Another great foodie spot near Stowe is the Cold Hollow Cider Mill. This is a local cider mill that is popular for apple cider drinks and fabulous cider donuts that are made on the spot all day long. "This popular roadside stop on your way to or from Stowe is a must. Fresh apple cider, warm cider donuts, Vermont honey, hard cider tastings, and lunch options ensure there’s something for everyone in the group. Located 44 minutes from our resort."
"Gorgeous cupcakes, cookies, pastries, eclairs: The sweet temptations at this buzzy bakery take the cake. Everything you see is baked fresh daily using top-notch, often local ingredients. If you have time to linger, start your day with a breakfast sandwich on a buttery, flakey, just-baked biscuit, or slather flavored butter on an airy popover."
